No point listing engine codes... theres that much a mish-mash in the thing I'd list 3 seperate engines easy!

1.6i 16v, recently rebuilt, was running fine for about 22 miles, then while on the bypass started running on 3 cylinders under load. There was also a rattly noise from the fuel pump just prior to this.

This continued for a little while, the noise then went away from the pump, and the engine came back to life as it should be running.

Now the fun bit...

When ever the engine has been stood for about 30 or 40 mins +, it fires up fine, runs for 2-3 seconds, then starts going on 3 cylinders again. Plug 1 is always wet during this time (black wet), 2 is slightly wet, but not black.

Once the engine reaches temp (about 92 on the dash) it runs fine, no hesitation, runs on all 4 cylinders.

The engine doesn't smoke either, just a little black when its running bad, plugs 3 and 4 get VERY sooty during this time. There is also no smoking when lifting off the throttle after a good thrash or when starting it from cold/being stood.

Changed the HT Leads and Plugs, yet the problem persists...

Fuel pressure was measured at a garage and was steady.

Only thing I've not replaced is the injectors (stuck injector maybe??)

Just the fact its only when its been stood for a short while, or cooled slightly it runs like a bastard, yet is fine when its hit 92.

Running out of ideas tbh...

Fault codes should tell you something anyway Paul, regardless of the combination of engine parts

Tried, only code being returned at present is 24 - VSS... nothing else at all, even after the engine cutting out...

Hmm, that doesn't sound like the likely cause of the problems TBH.

Are all your earths ok?

yeah, checked over all earths & everything else about a dozen times, the only thing different to it originally is the coolant system being bypassed from running through the tb. other than that, its as it was prior to the rebuild

wiring for it?

Other thing to swap would be coil.

But if it's temp that's causing the issue then it's got to be a sensor to do with temps.
