Theres also a hundred other factors, weight, size, battlefield standards etc

In regards to ballistics, the SA80 isnt underpowered at all, the slower muzzle velocity isnt due to the load in the cartridge its due to other aspects of the rifle design.

At the moment whether you like it or not the SA80 A2 is one of the most accurate and reliable weapons in use on the modern battlefield.. Part of which is down to the bullpup design spreading the weight evenly and allowing for a longer barrel within the same operating length giving increased manuerability etc

Oh and in regards to the MINIME.. what are we basing it being shite on? performce? or round size? because if i had to carry either one and a few hundred rounds i know which id choose..

you mean 7.62mm (.308) or 5.56mm (.223)

I have fired both the 5.56 and 7.62 rounds on a range and you can deffinately notice the difference in the kick and I know which I would rather use but what can you do about it?

its to do with costs imo. Labour hate spending on the military, 5.56mm cartrides are at least half the price of 7.62

the SA80 is not the most reliable

its well known for its problems. the FN built SLR was much better.

Topshit, the SA80A2 is now regarded as the best rifle in Natos armoury, gone from the worst to the best thanks to the help of Heckler & Koch.

the L98 was so wank that if you had it held open (so that you can look into the chamber to check for blocked rounds) and gave it a knock on the butt of the rifle, the bolt would move forward again back into the ready position, a handy feature when you've got a blockage and theres already afew rounds dislodged in the breach

this has no effect on how good or bad the SA80A2 is, as they're very different rifles
