They are bonnet pins, they're used for keeping the bonnet closed. They have a part that is drilled into the slam panel, then they go thourgh the bonnet and have a locking pin on top.

They are mroe commonly used on carbon fibre bonnets. This is because CF bonnets tend to flex a little, and some times the standard catch isnt good enough to hold it shut, causing the bonnet to open as you're driving along

Dont think there more commonly used on CF bonnets? Mainly used on track/race cars for quick opening and there more secure.

fair enough, just seems that on here its mainly people with CF bonnets that have them . I've heard they really are a must on these bonnets for the reason above

some people that have them remove the original mechanism for keeping the bonnet closed? or are the bonnet pins used as an extra precaution?

extra precaution on carbon bonnets as planty said.

Other wise id say they were used for looks

i have them on mine as my bonnet release cable snapped. they hold my bonnet down and stop it from opening

or if you run a big oil coller etc that the original pin will foul when closed

i run them on mine as its easier ot open the bonnet now..... and with a cf bonnet you really should run the pins

i think they look shit and useless unless they really serve a purpose like on a car used for race prucpose
