I was driving along the A580 East Lancashire road when i noticed one parked up at the side, everyone was going too slow and i didnt notice it untill i got a bit closer as i was over taking people. It was on a national speed limit road and i got a bit scared so i did slow down but it might be too late.
I couldnt tell if it was being operated at that time but was just wondering what the score is with these, it was clearly marked with speed camera signs on the van but as there was loads of cars i just didnt notice it untill i got realy close. I was just cruising and didnt even notice my own speed limit so when i saw it i looked and was doing roughly 75 so i slowed down but might of been too late.
I'm guessing with todays technology they probably got me from fair distance. When i was driving back it was still there and no one was in the front so they were in the back of the van, I didnt notice any flaps open when i was driving towards it the first time so i might be lucky.
I know what the outcome of this thread will be but just answer me these two questions, what is the distance they can catch you from? and if the traffic is a bit heavy on one side can they still catch you out with ease?
I'll be expecting a letter through the post with a fine and points. I have NEVER been pulled up by the police or even been caught going over the speed limit because i am quite a sensible driver (just not on this occasion)
Sorry for the essay and i'm not asking anyones opinions on my behalf and i dont want anyone judging me because we have all done it! I keep to 30's 40's and 50's!
Thanks

No road words as far as i could see, I'm very unsure if that part of the road was National speed limit or a 60 aswell because it does vary sometimes on the A580! if its a 60 then i'm sure to get into trouble

Which bit it's only just been changed around haydock to all 60 And 75 is hardly reckless can't imagine them bothering with cameras on a national speed limit part..... especially as it's just changed to 60 on most bits

I have seen a speed camera van on this stretch of road too, luckily i was only doin 50 as it was lashing it down..... You will find out soon enough as if you have been unlucky enough to be caught they usually get the penalty letter to you within 7-10 days
