right guys and gals, i'm looking at an astra around an 01 plate.

all i'm wondering is, is it worth paying the little extra on insurance for a 1.8 or shall i go with the 1.6 and use the money saved on insurance for something else??

Go for the 1.6 and save some money, how much difference is the insurance though? if its not that much then go for the 1.8

well the 1.8 is £1200. have't looked at quotes on a 1.6 as of yet, but looking at the specs i reckon it'll be a shade under a grand.
