id say vw for reliability
mazda for the fun
seat is basically vw

Reliability wise you aren't going to better the Mazda. Depending on your mileage it's not the most economic thing.
Do you have to pay your own road tax?
You should have a test drive in them to see what you think as it's quite a wide range of what you get in each car

Why would he be arsed about reliability when his work pay for all maintenance? 
His company would pick up the road tax bill also...

i'd go for the golf mate. Brilliant german reliability, excellent performance. It also holds its value very well.
