click on the plane and then let go, move the mouse off the left side of the screen (so the plane lines up with the grey bar going across the top), and then move the mouse outside of the game screen to the otherside and bring the pointer in where the grey bar goes across the bottom.

Eventually you'll get the right balance of the two to get over 100m each time.
