I recently sold one of my cars and I had the new style V5, I gave the new owner the second part of it (ie with the green slip) but I misplaced the bit I have to send off.
Does the new owner have to send off a V62 and pay £25? Obviously I would reimburse him the money as I messed up but I just wanted to know if there was a way around this...

Couldn't you phone the DVLA and get a new logbook sent out to you(about 2 weeks) for £19. And then send the new owner the new green slip and you send the logbook off changing over the ownership? Probably cheaper and quicker I *think*

Bit of a mission to do that, as he would still need to sign the declaration again, and I would have to send it off, so probably not much in it, in terms of time and money spent.
Oh well... My bad...

Yay just found out it can be done for free!

quote:
Exemptions to the fee
The £25 fee is not payable if:
you are the new keeper of the vehicle and the previous keeper has failed to notify DVLA of the change. You must be in possession of the new keepers supplement (V5/2 or V5C/2) of the registration document or certificate and send this to DVLA with the V62 application form. You will receive the registration certificate within four weeks. However, please allow six weeks before making enquiries
Sorted!

He better not go speeding or get a parking ticket in that 6 week period otherwise you'll be liable

I made him sign two receipts (one of which he kept) stating the date, car details, and the money he paid me for it.
Also got eBay auction details so I'm covered in that respect.
