Buch of useless cnuts 
I sent of my V778/1 form the other day (numberplate retention), with a cheque for £105.
Today, I receive the new tax disc and MoT certificate, plus the number plate authorisation certificate so I can get some plates made with the original number.
The two things which I actually need, the V5C and the retention certificate will be 4 to 8 WEEKS
So, I now need to spend £65 on tax, £40 on the insurance administration fee and lose money on the car because I have to wait ANOTHER 2 months before I can sell it

Hows the insurance admin fee the dvla's fault?? 
I thought they could stamp the green new owner slip as reregistered at the office & give it back to sell  Sure thats what happened when I sold my impreza.

It's not, directly, but if they'd given me the V5C today, I would have driven it to the garage this afternoon and sold it, then cancelled the insurance.
Now, I have to change it (£40), then cancel it(£40), so it costs twice as much.
It says on the paperwork that it is illegal to sell the car without the full V5C.

I didn't I sent the form off 2 weeks ago, after being told it would take 7-10 days to be sorted.
I wasn't sure if I was selling the car until then anyway.

I've been gauging interest for that long, only been selling selling for a few weeks though.
Anyway, it's not my fault, it's the DVLA's.

STILL having trouble.
I need to re-tax my car, because it ran out yesterday.
So, I need an MOT cert. V5C (or new keepers suppliment) and valid insurance document.
Problem is, the DVLA told me to leave my insurance as it is until I got the V5C through, or the insurance would be for a car which doesn't currently exist. (meaning I'm now semi-illegal  )
Then the lad tells me that I can't do it at my post office without the V5C, so I have to go to the DVLA Local office, which is 11 miles away (a long way when you can't drive there as you have no tax) AND I can't do it with a faxed copy of the insurance cert either, it has to be a proper printed copy, which won't be here til Tuesdayish, when my mum is back at work after half term, meaning no lift...
All I wanted to do was take the plate off, not re-tax the car and fuck about for even longer waiting for even more paperwork to come through.
I can't drive the car even when it is taxed, as it would either be registered but uninsured, or insured but not registered 
What a fucking stupid system.

tbh its nothing more than everyone else has to put up with when removing a plate, your not being treated any differently - ive done it several times leaving myself plenty time to get the plate removed & sell the car, your the one at fault here if youve not got enough ins/tax/mot to see that through, not the dvla. If you snooze you loose im afraid & youve defo snoozed by means of dithering about getting the car prep'd to sell. If you'd done it months ago you wouldnt be in this mess your in now!!

I did it with plenty of time to spare according to them Colin, they told me it would all be over within 10 days, I had a whole month left on the tax when I started the removal procedure.
I'm not complaining about that anyway, I'm complaining about the fact that the car can't be retaxed without a valid ins cert and they won't accept a fax, and they are giving me conflicting information about what to do with the plate, so I don't know if my car is illegal or not

Wel I quess a month should be long enough, but id retain tax/mot & ins over that time. If you go in with the doc's they do it a bit quicker but it still takes a few weeks to come through - 7-10 days is a crock of shit tbh!!!
Did you send it off or take it in??? iirc I went to the dvla office & they stamped my current V5 form as reregistered, stamped the mot & issued a new tax disk & that was enough to be able to sell it. Maybe different branches do things different ways?

I sent it off, couldn't be arsed driving 11 miles when there was free envelope with the form.
I also don't understand why the V5C is taking 'up to 8 weeks' to come through, when the other bits came through after a few days
They didn't tell me that on the phone, if I'd known it was going to take that long, I would have taxed it before sending the stuff off, but they didn't.
I maybe should have given more time for it, but I didn't know I was definitely selling the car til the day before I sent the form off, so I haven't even really been dithering

Oh, and regarding the V5 stamping, I have a new keeper's suppliment from the old V5, with the new reg on it, a brand new mot certificate and a new tax disc (which has now expired).
If the V5 had come through at the same time, I wouldn't have had this trouble, as I could have got rid of the car before the tax expired.

Just sell it as it is if you are selling to a garage they will deal with this regularly!
