Costing you efficiency and fuel economy, and reliability /\
XE's never break down, and why do you think so many people have them fitted?

My brother blew up 3
But that was due to a clogged oil cooler, not the engines.

LOl.
For reliability, and good power from a standard engine.

yes they are very good engines.but they do brake down and ask most people that have owned them and they will say they have had some sort of problem with it.but the same goes for most engines

i had not one problem in 2 years with my xe, it never once broke down or failed to start or leak anything. was great motoring. ran awsome with 140k on the engine still going strong now after another 3 people have owned it

Buy one, rebuild it and do a proppa job and all should be good! Renew sensors as well and you should be fine.
People who drop them straight in cant expect a reliable set up, some might be luck though.
I had problems with mine but it wasnt driven slow.

if you can do it yourself its just the price of the parts.

please please please make an allowence for parts that you may not think you need, i have done a conversion (last week) and spent a fortune on parts, when i thought i had everything!
there are hidden costs, its a ball-ache and allot of stress.

very good engines if looked after and rebuilt after 100k i'd say.. Go for the engines with the Costcast head if you can tho dont go porus like the GM one.

mine has bin more reliable than both my small block xe engines with less that 30k on clock of both of them, mine had failed afm recently but it was 15 years old for christ sake gotta make some allowance.
end of the day some parts will be old/corroded dont see why this makes it a bad conversion this will happen to all engines when they reach a certain age, people seem to expect a 15yr old + xe to run as well as 1-2-3 year old engine with no problems.
i love my xe and would not swop it for the world, sometimes its worth a small price to pay for a shoddy sensor in my opinion, and i think kine handles gr8 for fast rod hatch
