[QUOTE=nariman1977;3282651]I used to have a Calibras turbo 4x4 which I raced last year in the LMa Euro Saloons. ( Have a look here www.ultimate-racing.co.uk ) . But last year I realised that I had to do lots more to the car to be able to be more competative with the other cars in the class which were mainly Ex tourgin cars.

So the plan was to buy another shell and rebuild the car from scratch. Car was bought but then suddenly I came accross this add:

1993 Ex David Leslie Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier Super Tourer rolling shell. Dave Cooke built car. Needs engine/box & brakes. A cheap way to get into the new class B with a super tourer. Make me a sensible offer.

Went and had a look at her and decided to buy her.

The car is an Ex touring car, and is believed to have been race in the 93 season of the BTCC. But then later on was bought by a privateer and raced for a few more years until the abov eperson bought her and decided to rebuild her properly. But halfway through, he decided not to do it anymore. Unfortunately at this stage the chasis plate went missing and we can't be sure what chasis number it is.

I need to do lots of work to it. There is no engine, although I am planning on using the LET from my Cally, brakes are also coming from the calibra, AP racing 4 pots, and a new gearbox, Xtrac206 6 speed sequential box.

If I had decided to rebuild the calibra to the stage the cav is I would have had to spend about 4k on it, which is why I bought the cav instead, it costed me £2k.

So the plan is:

Fully strip the car and repaint the chasis and the shell to the 93 team colors.
Modify the LET engine more to get more power out of it, aim is 400hp reliable lowish boost.
fit Xtrc206 box, £4k!!!!
and then race her in the LMA again.

The work is going to take about 2yrs I guess and is likely to set back around £15k.

But by the time it is finished, it will be one fast cavalier ST.

Here are some pics:

And THIS is the car that the cavalier is thought to be, and she is gonna look like her once I have finished the rebuild:

totally possible yeah, sbd cracked over 300 without a reverse head didnt they? std head is good enough for 230bhp without any mods to it in n/a form. quiet efficient really

I'm guessing by that exhaust manifold, the engine in that car would have looked like this -

edit -

This is the reverse one

Clearance issues I reckon Colin, the engine was lower in the car, so that was probably the only solution. Pipework looks fat enough for the bends not to be a problem either I reckon

top one has the engine the normal way round, but the engine will be so low to the floor, most likely with a flat dry sump, o the manifold needs to run like that or itll end up flat......

Look

I've seen a Swindon developments non reverse touring car spec head....you could ft your whole hand in the ports

I think it would be sacrilidge putting a LET in there at least but a race spec XE in there and make it a proper jobseeing as Xtrac gearboxes are not cheap...although the 4k he quotes is pretty cheap for one IMO

It's having a LET anyway, but you can buy a reverse head from Swindon Race Engines. For a few k at least.

I never understood that Livery though - it's not like they do anything for the XE, or any Vauxhall is it?
