might buy a car tonight, but, the lad has only had it a week and has not yet recieved the log book, i dont know him personally, where do i stand? how do i secure my purchase so he doesnt rip me off?

He should have part of the logbook that he fills in to show he is the keeper.

he has that part, he said will bring licence as proof of id and address also, if i write a reciept and he signs it and i get green slip, will i be covered in the eyes of the dvla?

I'd meet at his house - don't meet in a random place. That way you can definitely make sure of his address etc etc.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me. If he is selling so soon after buying it himself  Also if him/the old owner has already sent the main bit of the logbook of to dvla to change over ownership then even if he gives you the small slip it's practically worthless is it not? How will you be sure he will change over the ownership to you if/when the new logbook is sent back (presuming he/old owner has already sent if off)?? Like Deano said already do not meet him somewhere random, and take someone with you no matter what. Any single doubt about his genuinity and I personally would give it a miss. Plenty more decent cars out there too with their V5's

it is a m reg corsa sri 16v, 110000, mint body and interior, mp3 cd and piuoneer components, lowered, alloys, k&n, peco back box. itsred but not faded, engine overheats and loses power, 160 quid,

worth a bit of a gamble for £160.
tell him you wilkl give him £100 for it and the other £60 when you get the logbook through, see if he gets funny. Doubt the car is stolen, they wouldnt bother risking it for £160.

dont matter any way, he phoned and said he decided to let the auction run, arrr well his loss. i take it he has no log book
