Hi guys.

Asked on a few forums now and still dont know what to do.

Iv seen a set of alloys i like for the Mini and they are only available in the states , So im planning on importing them across from California to Glasgow, But what i want to know is the charges i'll be subject to from customs etc. as i want to include this in the price to see if its worth it.

Thanks for any help.

I think very approximately import tax and vat make up about 1/3 of the sale price. Google it though to be sure.

When I imported my alloys a few years ago....

Cost of alloys + Shipping Cost + VAT + Duty (10% of all costs mentioned already) = final price.

A way to get it lower would be to have the place you buy them from supply an invoice for a lower amount.

How much is VAT?

Why would a lower ammount on the invoice make a difference?

Thanks for the help, Much better than the useless shower of homo's at HM Customs when i phoned.

VAT is 17.5% of the invoice total you have to supply + the delivery charge.

So a lower invoice total would mean less VAT and duty being paid.

its not a bad time to be buying from the US though with the exchange rates as they are. Try to get them to organise shipping so you pay in US dollars.

Lol, If i told you how much those were then you wouldnt beleive me but you get them ALOT cheaper over there that here.

There 18's is like our 15's. We get 15's cheaper cos there unwanted and not that big a deal.

Over there they put 22's on there day to day cars.
