materials plastics for performance use:

*FLEXIGLASS is a DOT approved safety plastic, available only from Plastics 4 Performance and we consider this to be a good all round material for all forms of motorsport except rallycross

*POLYCARBONATE - We only use genuine MAKROLON or LEXAN UV protected exterior grade materials which have DOT, ANSI and ISO approvals for use as safety plastic and all our polycarbonate kits are 100% polycarbonate, we do not substitute for lower grade materials in thermoformed screens

*LEXAN MARGARD POLYCARBONATE -Abarasion resistant polycarbonate kits, the material has a special hard silicon coating applied to both surfaces to combat scratching, Carries all safety certificates needed and we are proud to say that Plastics 4 Performance are the only suppliers of moulded hardcoat screens in the UK

and a quote i got for a corsa b last year

4mm clear FLEXIGLASS @ £200.00 (£235.00 (inc VAT)
4mm clear POLYCARBONATE @ £250.00 (£293.00 inc VAT)
4mm bronze or grey POLYCARBONATE @ £270.00 (£317.25 inc VAT)
4mm clear LEXAN MARGARD POLYCARBONATE @ £470.00 (£400.00 inc VAT)

Because that's what happens.

Throw a brick at it and it will split into big chunks, like any other bit of perspex...

It's not used on every car as it scratches and can discolour in the sun.

I know that but would be alot safer than glass if its as strong as everyone is saying.

Glass is very strong!

Also if your window breaks you dont want big jagged shards you want minute shattered pieces!!

The one bonus of glass is that you can put a foot through it when you're in a ditch and it won't just bend.

why go on about security of poly carb windows! you dont fit they for style, you fit them for function, the difference in wieght is minimal but it allows you to gut the doors etc!

as for fitting an alarm, i just spend a while removeing mine along with all the wiring that went wirth it, what a ball ache, a fair bit of weight there!

Plus i doubt it's as good at keeping the warmth in the car as glass.

It can't be any less safe than a convertible though.

still dont get why your argueeing about the security of it lol!

i did make a note of the weight saved, but it was noticable, however having said that i have removed all the wiring from the car and only left in the bear essentials! so it all adds up!

Yeah i suppose, i was merely talking about security as Butler said that Perspex windows would make his car less secure.

perspex windows are a bit silly due to them being brittle..... they tend to get lots of cracks all over them if left in the sun for too long, also they go yellow.

poly carb is the way forward. its resistant to uv however it does mark easily.

i wouldnt fit them if you plan to use the car everyday and cant leave it in a garage over night.

iv fitted them to mine to save a bit of weight, allow me to remove the electric window mech and gut the doors, i have also removed all the locks from the car and all the wiring that goes with the central locking, inc the standard alarm box, relocated the fuse box and simplified it.....

if i didnt do all this id still have glass widnows, cat 1 alarm, central locking etc!
