Just got a call from the vauxhall garage, my 2.0 DTi Vectra failed its block check. possible head gasket / head warp.

parts £141 + VAT
Labour 6 hours = £438 +VAT

Total:680.33

If i was forking out best part of £700 I'd want to make sure the work they're doing is actually going to fix the car

yeah vauxhall are amazing...

edit: yeah they said its most definately head gasket because the heads are thicker on diesels and dont usually warp

depends what car it is! changing a head gasket isnt just a case of whipping it off and on in 5mins!

if you pay that much, insist on being there when they do it so they dont take the piss and chrage hours of labour they dont do!

my mate works for vauxhall in swansea and takes him about 3 hours tops

6 hours is about right IMO.

Better than saying 3 hours and having complaints when it's not ready...

phoned a local garage and they wont touch it, because its a vectra and they have fucked alot up in the past. muppets.

That's the going rate for Vauxhall down here too. BMW/Merc garages are probably cheaper...

On that particular engine? How can you say they are all exactly the same. 6 hours seems fairly reasonable to me.

i pay £42 an hour labour + VAT from a local indipendant porsche specialist to work on my car,

Wouldnt let a main dealer near it

says about 6 hours on my autodata cd. and arnt they an timing chain anyway.
this would make it long than a normal timing belt engine

they have two timing chains 'duplex system'

6 hours is undercharging, iv got vauxhall's TIS on my PC and its over 8 hours

not a bad price for a vauxhall garage tbh
