TBH If it gets out of the way in time and lives fair enough, if not who cares? Unless it does damage to the car.

As for slowing down for horses, if they can't deal with traffic, they shouldn't be on the road.

thats what I was going to post.
If an owner is stupid enough to let their pet go walk abouts on roads and possibly endager my life and other peoples around me then you can be fucked if you think Im scooping up a few parts and taking them to the vet to be sewn together again.

I bumped my car a few years ago. After spending nigh on £1500, and after waiting 4 months for all the bits to come, I hit a bloody fox on the way home from the bodyshop at just under a ton
He went straight through a £400 bumper, a £300 radiator and a new air con radiator too

when i was younger as a family we used to enjoy going to manchester and watching Manchester Storm (ice hockey) whilst travelling on the motorway a dalmation ran all the way to the central reservation, decided it wanted to go home and ran back. but on its return journey it wasn't so lucky and was hit by an arctic lorry. about 50 yards in front of our car. Needless to say there wasn't much of it left.

of course they fucking are. Robin said the highway code states you shouldnt brake for any animal when the second point contradicts that. If the cat, etc isnt dead the humane thing to do is take it to a vet in that case.
I says slow down when herded animals, or ridden animals are about. It says nothing about swerving or breaking not to hit animals, or taking them to the vets.
but does it say "do not brake"? I supposed it depends on the situation but all this stemmed from a comment from Nathy, by the way it was worded there was plenty of time to slow down to avoid running them over. I just had an image in my head of him just casually running the fuckers over, which wouldnt suprise me given some of the shite he comes out with

oh fuck no i would stop if I had time and could see them. But if I was on a main road or country bendy and bumpy road I wouldnt slam on as could easily end up in a ditch just to save a few birds!

It tells you not to brake sharply or swerve to avoid an animal.
The only reason I'd stop for a rabbit would be to see how far it's head had landed from it's body, I wouldn't be stopping to avoid it.

I cant believe you stopped on the motorway and looked for it....did you want to become the next one to be hit or just get locked up for being mental?!!
I didn't prance around the 3rd lane dancing like a fairy... I was on the hard shoulder, trying to get a glance from there

As regards the whole animal hitting highway code thing, i'm sure if you hit a dog - legally you have to find the owner or stop. cats however I don't think matter so much - something like that.
I just remeber spreading a rumour in 6th form saying on your test you can have something like 15 minors and pass, so if you hit 15 cat's your fine, but if you hit one dog, you'll have a major and fail. Ironically being in a sixth form, no-one actually commented on the likelyhood of hitting 15 cats in the period of 40-50 minutes during the test

This is true Rob, you do have to stop for dogs, but it'll tell you not to swerve to avoid them.

IIRC, the law states that if you kill a cat, you dont have to report it, but if you kill a dog you do.
