The corsa van has just developed a problem
Its a 1.4 engine
It suddenly lost power and now has a top speed of about 40mph.
You have to take it really slow through the gears and hold the revs or it bogs down.
Checked plugs, leads and dizzy but they are all new anyway.
No smoke what so ever out of the exhaust.

Any ideas?

Had those symptons 3 times on 3 diff cars......

1. turned out to be headgasket gone between cylinders

2. turned out to be ingnition problem, but as you say all should be fine

3. Turned out to be cat breaking up and blocking (if you have one) the system which glowed white hot.....easy to spot

If the cat was rattling it proberly is that the cat has collapsed!

yer it would. blocking the cat means your essentialy having a build up of pressure. U ever stuck ur hand over the exhaust eventualy it will cut the engine out.

This is what has just happened on my SRi. Sounds like its misfiring when you try to accelerate and doesn't go anywhere really...

found out it's the headgasket (split between 2 cylinders as said above) so I'd check this

If the cats rattling it could be due to unburned fuel getting burned off in it if your not running in all cylinders.

Does the exhaust smell like its running lean??
