1.2 16v sxi. i have one. nice drive but no electric windows. doesn't bother me though.
didn't go for 1.4 or higher because insurance was a killer.

1.0 12v, 1.2 8v, 1.2 16v or 1.4 8v SPI IMO, I had a 1.4 16v for my first car, I'm lucky I didn't die, it was too quick for a unexperienced driver.

autotrader.
local car magazines.
pistonheads.
i bought mine on ebay, but i would recommend buying a standard one that hasn't been ragged throughout it's life

yeah.. i'd prefer a standard one.. hopefully the owner was an 80 year old granda who clocked up 20k miles in 10 years! and only wants a couple hundred quid for it!
chances are slim though
what should i look for then?
mileage??
etc.

Mileage wise, as low as possibe for your budget, full service history is good, if it's done over 60k, make sure it's had a cambelt done, pretty much the same as any other car, just check everything is working and that it's looked after.

Personally i would get insurance quotes and then decide. You would not get so bored with a 1.4 16v Sport as quickly as a 1.2 8v. You may even keep it for a few years.
I've got a 1.4 16v Corsa C SXI. It's the only car i can't find it in my heart to part with

think u shud get a rather nippy c20let corsa, fuel consumption is a tad high but for a 1st time driver, 200bhp+ should be enough :-)

1.4 16v or 1.4 8v i had the 8v as my 1st car did the trick, wasnt a slug for an unexperienced driver but was by no means fast!

my 1.2 8v is on roughly 87k and no cambelt change. Doing it soon though
