Seen a nice vectra turbo im interested in buying, problem is the guy says that the turbo is smoking and will need to be refurbished, he's saying it will cost £150 to fix.
Do you think refurbishing it will sort it or i'll end up having to fork out for a new turbo if i buy?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Tell him to sort it and you'll give him the extra £150 assuming it fixes the problem.

What vectra? Didn't know they done a Turbo apart from the new one?? if it's the new one i would be a bit concerned! If it's a LET conversion i could imagine it would cost more than £150!

Ask him when it smokes.
Sounds silly but the older C20LET engines (if its a converted car that is) have a habit of blocking the oil return so the oil is forced back into the turbo. People repair the turbo as a cost of hundreds not realising all they need is a new pipe........

A recon turbo is a lot more than £150....
Personally a car with a problem like that I would steer clear...there are more about...just find another one...

I've emailed him saying if he fixes it i'll almost certainly buy it from him, just waiting on a reply.
It was a 1.8ls, converted to a C20LET
Just wanted to know if buying it smoking would result in a new turbo

if it was that easy to fix, why wouldn't he do it himself?
