Microsoft sold 71,000 Xbox 360 consoles during its UK launch weekend, while Nintendo sold 105,000 Wii machines.

But both companies offered limited stock to retailers, which led to shortages.

Makes me think... the PS3 was 'delayed' due to problems... how do we know it wasn't so Sony could get enough ready to try and take the glory from Nintendo & MS??

I wonder how limited the stock would have been if Sony did originally release last year...

The fact is, it proves nothing regardless if it sold 165,000 units or not - the stock was there, and still is, shops are NOT sold out!

Wii is still extremely difficult to get hold of as the demand far outweighs the current supply rate.

360 has been out plenty time now.

both the 360 and PS3 are very advanced pieces of kit, both offer next gen fomats etc.

However i prefer the 360 as it allows people to buy what they want. Many kids etc wont be able to have a PS3, especially at this time of year etc

by no means i want to argue with you, but lets be honest. the ps3 is a multimedia unit. Films, music, internet and games. Its the centre of your living room, rather than just a toy for your 9 year old son.

i feel the same can't be said about the xbox.

My opinion

So is the xbox, even more so you can link it to your pc

I would be interested to see the age ranges that are buying these consoles anyway.

Id say they are 'labelled' as a games console. which IMO is a toy.

lol they marketed the psp as an ultimate portable media device though and look how well thats doing, software sales are very poor and many publishers are jumping ship and working solely on the nintendo ds.

Not to mention the umd movies for it which was such a flop there not even making any more lol another sony media bites the dust.

I would say it was intentional, less supply = more people wanting one.

steve are you in a world of your own how can the ps3 be a exspensive blu ray player do you even know how much blu ray players are?

both consoles are the same really and if you wanted all the stuff for the xbox you would be aboutt he same as the ps3 anyways

165,000 units is a very good start you have to agree

I wouldn't use any console as a sole movie player.
