I took it elsewhere (a mate a Vaux) after the garage wanted £360 to replace the egr valve to see if it would fix the emissions problem. Vaux ran Tech 2 and found out that aparently it was just the air flow meter needed replacing, and that was causing the emissions to be out.. so I got that all sorted for £200.
Took it back to said mot garage for it's retest today and apparently the emissions are now worse than before and they want £230 to replace the egr valve. Seems fishy that they wanted £360 to fix it before, now they want £230. ..but the cat could be damaged which'll have to be tested afterwards, meaning more money! I don't want to be taken for a ride by the garage, I can just about scrape together £230, but I'll be left with not a penny after that and I only get about £50 a week from my shitty part time job.
Sorry about the rant.. not too chuffed at the moment!

mine failed on emmissions last week as well. couldnt get a lamda reading so have replaced the whole exhaust (except the cat) and sealed the manifold gasket up. its running better now and doesnt sound like a tractor retest tomorrow. so luckily the mot has cost me an extra £10-£15 this year.
damn our 1.0l's

Scrapyard Dom? Do you not know anyone in the trade? Did it only fail on Emissions? Anything else?
Have you got an induction kit/Drilled airbox?

It only failed on emissions mate yeah, I've no induction kit or drilled airbox. I can get a new egr valve through a mate for £160 fitted.. but that's no guarantee it'll pass.
Spending too much money on a crappy 1.0l!

Hmm, EGR valve causing high emissions? I find it unlikely, more likely a fubar'd CAT.

They said they can't find out if they CAT is fucked until they replace the EGR valve? I hate not knowing what they're on about, just feel I'm being taken for a ride.
Hamish, you think that's bad? Vaux wanted £262 originaly, but a lad I knew sorted me out cheaper.. £20 for Tech 2 then £170 trade price for the air flow meter.
Grr, rinsing too much on this.

£170 still . i take it was a bosch unit. Im sure you could have got a cheaper unit from a motorfactors, but nevermind, what done is done.

Put ads in wanted. I would have gone to the scrappy, bought one for like a tenner and then sold to for £40!
