Rose tinted spectacles i'm afraid Ollie.

We all used to get pulled all the time.

Lack of speed humps was nice though.

'90 - '93 were golden years Fad.

Nearly everyone had a MK I or II, and everyone else had a Capri, Cortina, Granada or maybe a Sunbeam or Chevette. A few gays had XR3s but most cars were proper stuff.

Citroen used to do all sorts of finance deals Ollie, and vw did free insurance on the polo.

You could buy a brand new RS Turbo in '89/'90 for £12,995 including the first years fully comp insurance thrown in. Ford did a deal with an insurance company that left you with maximum NCB after the first year too.

I was gonna buy one, but thought better of it and waited 10 years instead.

One day I will find a minted, garaged from new, one owner RS 2000 in diamond white, or signal yellow, or black, for 2 grand, and I will buy it, bring it home, drop it three inches on 7.5 x 13s, stick a cage, some Stack clocks, and some harnesses in it and pop a YBD on carbs under the bonnet plus a Quaife Rocket box and Quaife LSD in an Atlas axle with some nice brakes, a 5 linked rear end and some rose joints etc etc etc.

And I will be a happy man.

Then I can look for the perfect Cossie.

They didn't have much choice at the time.

It was THE most stolen car in the UK.

They had compounds full of them and couldn't sell them discounted, so had to drop the price again and throw in the insurance.

Glad I didn't buy one now.

£13k though, thats a lot of money back then, car prices do seem to have come down a little since then, on average anyway.

That was actually a bit of a bargain at the time. It should have been about 15k, maybe a bit more IIRC Ollie.

Wages were good on the whole.

A 1.9 205 GTi, a CRX 16V or a Rover 216 Vitesse would all have set you back just over 11 and a half grand, and the Cosworth Sapphire was well over 20k. An S Class Merc would have been 60+k so everything was relative realy as now.

What is crazy in my opinion is the prices of some cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s now. They sell for the same, more, or considerably more than they cost new.
