Thinking I wanna pick one of these up - can't be arsed with the hassle of looking for a decent Astra IV SRi-T as I'm too fussy about what I want, so reckoning a nice Astra coupé might be a easier alternative.

I don't know too much about them, from what I can tell there are 3 engine options: 1.8 16v, 2.0 16v turbo and 2.2 16v - is that right?
I'm also assuming they are all styled by Bertone which I've read has Lotus tuned suspension?
There is the Linea Rossa (sp) edition - what is the difference with those models?
I know they done a cabriolet aswell as a few limited editions - 888, Coupé 100 - any others?

How are they generally for wear and tear? For my price range I will get a medium mileage one (80k ish) by the look of the current market, are they fairly reliable and sturdy at this kind of mileage?
I also reckon it'll be a more early one than a later one - I believe they started production around 2000 on Y plates?

Any info would be great, tried looking on AstraSport/Astra Owners forums but they are such a mess I gave up!

Yes - three engines.

Linea Rossa has red leather middle section on the black leather seat, 17s, trip computer on 2.2, few other bits.

SE1/2 much the same type of thing apart from alcantara, I have a brochure in my garage if you want a look at that.

888 is a turbo and they command a bit of a price premium over a normal coupe turbo of the same age/mileage. Normal coupe is better value unless you really want the 888 kit/seats.

100 edition has beige leather and BBS 17s and is available in all engine options.

They started on X plates although early ones don't have some of the exterior styling bits namely darker rear light clusters/chrome strip on the boot lid etc.

Not wanting to spend much more than the £4k mark really - not sure what I'll get with that tbh, I had looked at MK4 Golf GTi's as they also fall into that price bracket and although they are probably a better car I'd much rather stick to Vauxhalls, yes I'm a brand loyal chump!

Cool, well if you see anything or know of any - feel free to let me know.
There is one on the Autotrader fairly local to me, Irmy front and rear splitters, heated electric seats (cream leather interior), air con, FSH but it's 90k miles which puts me off and the drivers seat bolster has worn through and will need retrimming - it's in that bright blue colour aswell.
If it had 10k less miles I'd probably go and look at it and, for the price he's asking, buy it and have a nice chunk left over - I'm in no hurry though so will wait for a better one to come along, at the end of the day things like Irmy splitters etc can be bought later down the line but low mileage can't

If that's the case why are you looking at 80k cars, obviously I don;t know what you are buying it as (daily driver?) but residuals on buying a 80k car and doing 12k a year and selling 3 yrs down the line aren't gonna be dismilar to doing the same with a 90k+ imo.

Hi Tom, yeah it'd be a daily driver for me.
I think there is the whole mental block thing when it comes to a car hitting 100k miles for me - it just seems such a milestone!
I work 4 on/4 off shifts and to get to work and back I do around 30 miles, so on average just for work purposes I will clock up around 5k miles a year, and probably half that again for general use outside of work - so for arguments sake 7.5k miles a year is about average for me in my current situation.
So if I buy a 90k car then after not much over a year I'll be closing in on the dreaded 100k mark, I also have this fear that high mileage cars are unreliable - i have no reason for this as my Corsa GSi (which I bought with 107k miles on the clock and no history at all) has now hit around 115k and has never let me down apart from the speedo cable breaking (which tbh can happen anytime) - so it's just this thing I have in my head that says I don't want a 100k mile car after a year, I feel I'll maybe lose a fair wedge of money on it in resale value - already thinking of selling before I've even bought it - I dunno, I'm a indecisive dick sometimes!

Fair enough points, I would be a bit nervous of having or buying a 100k car (unless it was an e30 325i sport ) and plenty of other people probably think the same (although reliability these days is probably alot more to do with servicing and looking after a car thna milage) , how long are you planning on keeping it? If you've got enough time to keep an eye out you could find one with 60kish for that money especially if you save a little more up then the whole 100k thing wouldn't even be a thought

I have no plans to sell it, I guess I'll keep it for as long as I feel I need to change - I generally keep my cars for at least two years but more often longer.
I'm in no hurry to buy a car, my little GSi is still going strong and I have no reason to think that will change anytime soon, I just feel that at my age (rapidly approaching 31...) I think I should be driving something more than a M reg Corsa GSi which is lowered on 16" Softstars and with a Magnex exhaust - I'm an embarrsment to myself!

depends what you want but the 2.2 is a very strong and quick engine

Turbo is obviously quicker but 80k+ may spell trouble for the turbo engines depending how they are driven
