Cavalier CDX had a redtop, as did the SRi, and GSi.
Calibra 16v
Astra GTE (later), the earlier had the 8v.
And most Corsas and Novas (now )

TBH, from the amount of 2ltr Corsa's about, you'd save alot of time and money buying one thats already been done. The extra money can be spent with little finishing touches. Just a thought...

I thought about buying one, but wanted the experience of pulling the car / engine apart & building it up to be the spec i want.
Turns out you can get very out of hand when buying bits.
started off as a budget sleeper, sub 700quid inc car, at the mo, engine is all over the floor, interior comes out today ready for cage & buckets, getting full spray & lots of nice suspension & brake components.
Well, it'd be rude not to.
All i need now is a pair of leccy mirrors off someone.....

I'd still be cautious about driving someone elses work.
But then thats just me, i like to know EVERYTHING thats gone on. Others arn't so fussy (im very very very fussy ).

True, i'd seen some horrible conversions, so decided to have a go myself, least i know whats going to fall off lol.
So far, everything i have used has been Gm or uprated, and everything has been installed nice & factory, i love my loom, its so neat, you would think it was meant to be there!

Thanks guys, I don't want to buy someone elses either for the same reasons.
and I want to make it sort of GM fit, so its looks neat and tidy. I also will be rebuilding the engine before it goes in to ensure it will be alright and to give me something to do over the weekends
a little project

Use this for inspiration then...
You will not find a tidier more standard looking 2.0 16v in a Corsa.....

I'm the same, i like to know whats went on and whats went into the conversion. In the long run it pays for its self.

You could also get carlton's with red tops, though you won't be able to use the gearbox or exhaust manifold off them .
Personally I don't see the problem with buying an already converted car. They usually cost much less than doing it yourself, with the added benifit of you being able to see how it runs/feels etc. It also wouldn't cost much to change mounts etc to beteer stuff if their not great. Wiring can easily be re-done over a weekend aswell, and you already know it works before you do anything, so it's deffinatly something you've done, not a shot in the dark trying to guess what the problem is!
