when buying an XE, if there is no history of the engine, will this matter to much?

How easy/much is it to rebuild an engine? and if you was to buy an engine and it was abit fucked, would rebuilding it solve 9/10 issue's?

Thanks

As Long as it runs when you buy it I would think that replacing all gaskets/sensors would solve most problems - Take take my word tho, I'm no expert
