This weekend I took part in a Grand Prix event at Thruxton karting against about 25 other people. Didn't know who any of them were. Some had brought their own gear / helmets / seat foam etc. Several had been before. I however had never been to the track and only watched the video on the website before going.

Thruxton has a 1100 meter out door track, with loads of wide, quick and tight corners. http://www.thruxtonkarting.co.uk and uses a thunder kart chassis.

Anyway, overall I beat every one and won

The practice and first heat were in the dry. The other heat and final were in the pouring rain lol it was interesting. I essentially just had the kart's rear wheels spinning constantly and was just drifting through the bends / going down the straights sideways at 60 mph like a crab

I want to go back now in the dry and try to beat the lap record I was pretty close to it that time, best lap being 51 secs in dry and lap record being 48.9.

yup was fucking silly lol.

In the 2nd heat, (the first one I had been in - in the rain), I got to the first corner and turned and went straight on!! ... Half the field just drove off, I couldn't understand how they were still turning / gripping? I then realised if you lifted off / braked you would go straight on, and you had to keep power on to keep the kart under control / steering. Obviously some of these guys already knew this lol, and I had some catching up to do.

yep, i found the only way round a corner at any speed faster than about 2 mph was to turn in early and feather the power to keep the kart going sideways and dont even think of touching the brakes.

well done Paul.
