what are they and what do they actually do? just had an mot the other week and they said one of them has slightly deteriorated!

They carry the brake fluid to the calipers.

Doubt it. Check the wear on your disc's and pads. Or the pads might need a wee bit of copper grease.

kk well they are new pads and disks so might still be wearing in! what brake hoses are good to buy? was thinking maybe getting some braided ones and then taking it to my local garage and just paying labour for them to fit them!

Depends on budget and what kinda upgrade (if any) you want to do to your brakes. But IMO, if they need replacing, you may aswell get braided ones

ye just need one side replacing at a budget realy no upgrade! are braided the ones to get then?

You may aswell get standard ones then. No idea on cost though.
