I've just done one of these last weekend.

Start by thanking everyone for making the day special by turning up. Then thank the groom for thanking the bridesmaids (having made sure he does) and compliment the bride.

Then you need to get around to main content which will depend on how you and him and indeed the people who are going to listen to it.

Best tip I can give you is this.

Dont try to be a hero and keep it all in your head....nobody in the reception is going to hold it against you for having a few crib/reminder cards to use

As for the stag do.....take the future father in law along, buy him multiple lap dances and hey presto....what happens away, stays away

Nah, went on a stag do last summer....brides dad tagged along.

At some stage we ended up in the inevitable lap dancing club (he didn't realise the club was of that sort :rolleyes

The father in law had 5 private room dances before he knew what hit him. That certainly made the speeches easier...he was squirming waiting for the details of the ho's rubbing their bit into his face being included in the best mans speech

some can be good, but a speech made up entirely of cheesy jokes grates a bit after so long.

i used one or two when i did me bro's, but best to make up a funny story that actually happened, but has to be something that everyone will see the funny side of ,not an "in-joke" between mates, as older friends and family wont have a clue what you are on about.
