if he accepts it when the guy brings it to him then he probably wont get anything.
You have to either point it out to the delivery guy and get him to mark it down as damaged, or not accept the parcel and then begin the claim process.

I think either can claim, aslong as you have all the details (tracking code normally).

I work for a transport/courier company & if the receiver has signed for the goods unmarked and in good condition then he won't have a leg to stand on in regards to claiming ANYTHING.

Then you are breaching basic terms of transit.
Even if you sign for something that turns out to be damaged the carrier has an obligation to investigate the claim either by inspection or direct reimbursment,
If you sent it you need to make a claim, they may require the pkg be collected and returned to depot for damage inspection where they will decide whether it was damaged due to direct negligence or due to poor packaging.
Remeber tho just because you think it is sufficiently packed it may well not be in the eyes of the carrier. Each has their own guidelibes for packaging.
Phone the carrier and start a claim asap

If its Royal Mail go to the PO and get a claim form, they dont usually require it to be inspected but sometimes request pics of damage.
They also need proof of a sale if its ebay or similar
