Which is best to buy 1st for performance increase, an inlet manifold or exhaust manifold?

depends what car you have. If you have an 8v such as a 1.2 or 1.4 then exhaust probably as you aint going to make much power of either.
x14xe or x16xe then deffo an inlet manifold. But in an ideal world you should have both. no point have great flow in when you cant flow out. and vise versa

the inlet will make the most difference, but then again i would probable starrt with an exhaust manifold with an exhaust to suit.

backbox don't make a shite bit of difference, just a noise. Start of with an exhaust system, all the way from the block.

I agree with whats been said. Start with a good flowing full exhaust including 4-1 manifold. Then think about getting a performance inlet and some cams. Rempa would also be a good decision to make the most of your mods.
