..........damage caused to a CD player?
I sent a CD player, fully working (radio and CD) via Royal Mail Special Delivery. Item was well protected and packed.
Unfortunately, when the buyer received the cd player, he claims it is not playing cds, but radio plays fine.
So if damage has been caused internally to the cd player, will Royal Mail compensate for this?

Not sure on damage like that, they might request the packaging is inspected for damage. Cd players are generally quite robust for normal handling

thats my point, how can i prove that?
It was playing (both cd and radio) when removed from car and 2 days later sent. The buyer took some days to insall it and then is claiming that when he puts cds in, he gets an error message 'No CD' or something like that. I have mailed him to ask if he is playing clean cds...

Its hard to say, but you'll need to send in a claim and we'll more than likely want to see the packaging. As someone said, the onus is on you to prove that it was damaged whilst in RM's care (probably not the right word )
At the end of the day, it was Special Delivery and if it was packaged properly, it shouldn't have got damaged.

Is he trying to put a copy in? My CD player would play a majority of copied CDs but not all, depending on the make of the disk

no, he is putting in Original CDs
I have filled in a form today and the buyer is sending back the player today.
Hopefully it should be ok. I will need to inspect the player first.
Of course, the onus is one me to prove. But the player was playing everything fine and now stopped working, after having sent it. Might have suffered some sort of shock because the radio is playing, unlike the cd. So the lens might have got a shock.

Now you come to mention it, that was probably right. Did you put "Caution: Fragile" stickers or anything on it?
