I agree, know a couple of people that have done this, and it doesnt affect them, it affects a LOT of people that know them etc... As they never ever know the reason to why they did it..

Although R.I.P to your mate

Seriously colin thats a bit of a silly thing to say, you have to understand what goes through peoples heads when they reach a point when they dont want to live anymore. If you havent experienced it then you have no idea what was going through that persons mind.

I lost a very close family member (he was like a dad to me) in the same way. A couple of weeks before his death the things he told me he was seeing in his head were just scary. He could hardly tell the difference between what was real and what wasnt. Found out later that he was suffering from Bi-polar (think thats what its called)

I think calling it selfish without knowing the whole story is wrong, yes im sure there are some people who have done it out of spite of someone maybe to prove a point and i agree that is selfish or when the take someone (like a child) with them i think that is awful. I just think that you should hold your judgement until yu know the whole story.

Was my uncle selfish? Not in my mind. I just hope that hes found a better place where he isnt suffering like he was before.

And i am deeply sorry to hear about the news of your mate i know how you feel bud and its terrible...

Ive been low before, thought about ending myself then thought about the people that would be affected & left to pick up the peices. I think its something that probably passes through alot of our minds at some point in a moment of insanity when things arent going our way. I still stand by its a selfish thing to do but agree obviously they must be living on the edge for a while to even consider doing it & should have seeked some help!!

Thing is colin he did get help he went to hospital and stayed there for 4 months! But a hell of alot more research needs to go into mental health IMO they said he was free to go and shoud be fine, they put him on so many different drugs they had contradictory effects, they really had no idea how to help him and its them i am most angry at, in my mind they failed him completly.

he did everything they asked him to do and still look what happend. I think what alot of people dont realise is in alot of cases its because they are suffering from a disease. Its not like he decided in a ten minute period that he was going to end it and fcuk the consequences.

Im not really critising what your saying Colin, your enititled to your opinion, but i dont think generalising it in such a way as saying everyone who commits suicide is selfish is right, yes in some cases but in most no. Ive experienced it up close and if you ever have to go through anything like i did (and i hope you dont) then i think your opinion may change.

Anyway, i think really we should be sending our condolenses to the lad who lost his mate
