On my Cupra, i have a plastic engine cover like so.

Now, i want to paint it black and yellow. Thing is i know i'll get a better finish with spray cans, here's the catch, these average spray cans won't be heat resistant paint, so will probably flake with heat etc. only thing is i can't find heat resistant paint in a spray can at local DIY stores, nor can i find the colour (shade of yellow) i want like i can in spray cans. Do you think the cover will get hot enough to react with the paint or do you think i will be okay, with your average cans. Any links to wider selection of heat resistant paint welcome guys, cheers

Because i like to give things a go myself first time around, bodyshop would be a last resort, as i've sprayed plastics before quite competently

well try it with the normal spray cans and if it cracks then take it to a body shop.

Do you think it will just crack, or possibly start bubbling and stinking throughout the car when it's hot That's the only reason i haven't done it yet, just wondered what other people did, when spraying the covers on their engines as i've noticed a few people have painted covers on their corsas here

i had the engine cover on my old gsi sprayed yellow and it never cracked.
the plastic engine cover wont get hot enough to affect the paint i wouldnt of thought. H.T. paint is designed to be used on manifolds etc that really do get hot, not jkust warm

I can get the average spray cans from Halfords in the colours i want, it was just i was worried as to whether, the normal paint would react to the heat, but by the sound of it, it won't do, so problem solved. Cheers guys

if you want to play it safe mate, get a can made up for you rather than the paint off the shelf. you will get a better colour match this was and normally its better paint!
