Think this is in the right section! I'm after an electric garage door system. Anyone got a rough idea of the cost? I heard you can fit them yourself and buy from B&Q? Although if it's reasonable having someone in to do the lot I'd do that.
Anywhere online that sells em?

They are only cheap aren't they?? Think I was told they are about £200 if you fit them? Main reason I want it is because my car is loud and my driveway is in between my house and next doors, bit embarrasing coming home and opening the door at night while the exhaust note bounces off the walls

And handy is some pikeys have followed you - you don't have to get out the car, leaving the keys in the ignition to open the garage door, simply push the remote when you're on your drive I know someone who had an electric door fitted because they had a Porsche.

Ahh that is quite cheap! Thought they would be more.
Good idea from a security point of view as deano said

The 350z was quiet, they used to moan about the old Evo. Seeing as they park opposite my drive and make it difficult for me to get out I decided I fancied a noisy car again
Main reason is the security point of view, makes door harder to break into as well, stops me from getting soaked in Winter and cuts noise levels at night as I don't have to arse about opening doors etc.

make sure you get a door that goes up and not out at the same time if that makes sense? As it makes it easier to get into the garage if there is cars reversed right up against the door.

The ones ive seen, you can go inside the garage from the house and disconnect the electric mechanism and manually pull the door open.

we sell one at b&q for 400 thats very popular. it has an emergency pull on the inside if the motor packs up. and ive had to uplift one from a customers house which included taking it down and it wasnt difficult!

they are definately more safe security wise than your average garage door though, they have a built in alarm and locking mecanism, there is like a laser beam thing that senses movement as soon as someone walks through the garage!

stay away from the B&Q motors as they are weak and cant lift heavy doors, i work for the garage door company (the largest residential garage door company in the uk) so fit atleast one motor a day. I recomend either a merlin or a chaimberlain Lm60, the merlin is stronger and more reliable but the chaimberlains are much quieter and easier to set the limits. http://www.thegaragedoorcompany.ltd.uk/

We have one as well. Its spot on. Although the other week in the evening when i was working on my car and the power went off i did wonder how i would get out of the garage! Luckily i remembered the pull cord thing.
