The GSI's weren't made on 98-2000 plates. These were all sports. The difference being the engine, bumpers (lack of) and interior.
The 1.6 XE engines are notourious for having a very restrictive inlet design. This can be binned for a Mantzel/Dbilas item or TB's/Carbs. TB's are the best way to go, but if you haven't got a spare 1.5K then a Mantzel or Dbilas inlet for £500 is the next best option.
after changing the inlet, the usual applies, headwork, cams, exhaust etc. and then a re-map. There is a car on here pushing 160BHP without TB's (L30 SCT). And a couple pushing near 200 BHP with TB's. (Broster and Dave_A)
Hope this helps
