Right my brother is after a bmw 318 possibly.

Where the best place to get one, only wants an oldish one.

Around £750

seen aload of l reg's going around that price.
Ive already told my brother that hes goto get a high mileage one for that price tho.

Anything to look out for on them?

for 750, he'd be better buying a late E30 than a shabby E36.

ebay is probably the best bet.

Earliest E36 I think you can get is a J-reg. I know someone with one, doesn't have aircon or anything special. Does have PAS though.

I'd say rust is a major thing to look out for on all E30's and E36's, especially for your brothers budget. If you can manage to find an SE model, they had a few extras etc - I'm pretty sure they did SE back then.

things to look for

rear bushs.
rear axle mounting brackets crack and snap off.
rust as mentioned especially inner sills.
brake pipes,proper barsteward to change.

Try find one with fsh if possible
