If using a conversion kit there is no need to cut and weld the shell. If you aren't using one, you drop the o/s by 39mm.
I think you are refering to Mk2 cav inner CV's along with GSI shafts?
You will also need a modified linkage. Ideally you want service parts to boot, plus uprated suspension/brakes...etc, etc, etc...

If it is 2.0 inner CV's you can use the Cav 2.0 8v ones as well, thats what I run on mine.
The linkage requires modification by chopping and extending the centre of the C section. Add in the same amount as the width of the rear spacer, on mine it was 20mm.

On mine I didn't need to alter the plastic top bar, I just found it reduced throw between gates.
60mm springs will sag like a mofo with the extra 25-30KG!

Personally if it's provided I would fit it.
Think in terms of datum points. The gearbox end tends to act as the datum point, so if you don't fit the rear spacer the o/s of the engine is sat further back. You would also have to modify and weaken the rear mount to not run the spacer!

dont have to modify or weaken the rear mount. the xe corsa i used to have has been on the road near 3 years like that and is fine.
