In Thoery there is no reason as to why an electric supercharger would not work, as all a turbocharger or belt driven supercharger does is force more Air into the inlet and it does this using a big fan which is powered by exhaust gases or is belt driven from the crank.
If that fan was powered by electric it would have the exact same effect, however these things on ebay usually have really small crappy fans that are usually found in a computer!

and it would need its own power supply too. if it was to feed off the alternator, it would have to be more than 100% efficient to create any useful power

I was thinking that the other day, but surely the same would apply for a turbo or supercharger. Dont they create more energy cos the efficiency of the engine is increased more than the amount of energy used to spin it up, so its not actually making energy from nothing, just increasing efficiency? The principle behind electric superchargers is sound, more air, more fuel, more bang, the only thing is as people have said is the shitty kits on ebay are £2 computer fans that couldn't even blow a horny teenage lad.
