the catch is either out of line or the pin since it was sprayed and sometimes its catching fully and closing sometimes it wont close properly it catches on but is about a centre meter from being flush closed

whats best way to get it perfectly lined up with the pin..... obviously doing it while wide open would be guess work

Just guess work to be honest mate, just undo what ever holds the pin, or catch, might have to adjust both. Cant remember what holds them in, just undo slightly and re-position and keep doing so untill your happy with it.
