Poll: What to do with my Corsa
Just do the straight swap and put the other 1.4 in
  Buy the 2.0 redtop
Wait for a 1600 to pop up somewhere.

I dont really know what i want to do engine wise with my corsa, I know wthat i want styling wise but i have no clue what to do to the engine, The car is a 1.4 8 Valve SRi and it needs a new exhaust, clutch and it needs new tappets i think as its rattly as fuck.

So im looking at 50 or so for a new clutch but i know someone that has a spare 1.4 8valve engine for sale so it may work out cheaper to just swap the engines rather than paying for clutch and tappets etc.

The guy selling the 1.4 also has a 2.0 redtop for sale. So im also tempted to buy that. But when i get a license i wouldnt be able to insure it so id need to buy a cheap run around and keep it as a weekend car. Also if i bought the redtop i would be skint for the forseable future, because due to being 15 i have no steady income.

The other option is hold off and hope a 1.6 engine pops up for sale somewhere.

1.6 is going to be easier on insurance obviously than the 2.0. but saying that you could do the 2.0 conversion and be skint for a while but lets be honest at 15 theres plenty of time to save for the insurance. if you buy it then you know you going to have to work extra hours to pay it off. but i would go with a 1.6, wait to get 1 or 2 ncbs and then get 2.0.

It may be obvious but have you tried tightening the clutch? also if you do get this other 1.4 you'll still need an exhaust...

So basically all thats wrong with the engine is some noisy tappets, exhaust and Clutch.... As its a first car theres no way i'd put a 2.0 in there!!! Not the best of choices for learning to drive... and the insurance will be stupid (if you can even get a quote that is).

Just get the bits sorted on your engine first I would say. Learn to drive in it when the time comes and go from there.

i dont think u will get insured on a 2.0 at 17 its hard enough to get a decent quote at 17 with mods not unless ur mega rich an can afford it, the 1.6 might b high aswell. im 18 now but when i was gettin quotes when i just passed at 17 on a 1.2 sxi s rg i was gettin quoted over £2500 f/c that was on my own.

If i did 2.0 it then i would just keep it as a track car or similar and buy another corsa for everyday.
