Phil, I think it's to do with the skirts, they must trap water, which destroys the arches

To put it into perspective, a friend of mine has a MK4 Astra 2.0 16v Ecotec, 136bhp standard.
He went out and spent about £1500 on Cams, Exhaust, Head Work, Enlarged throttle body, chip etc, and its only just got him to the 150bhp mark, which is what a Red Top puts out as standard...

the XEV is a good engine more torque lower down the the XE, newer too. my bro had one just with 4-2-1. went ok. he just fitted Throttle bodies now it goes even better.
Also the Same engine (C20XEV) in the Astra Mk3 CDX is group 8 Insurence. cost £600 per year fully comp parked on road at 20 with no bumps.
Nothing in the xev as standard on road really when racing the GSI, and on open road. No bends ect they never get lost by the 106 GTI i have

defo a X20XEV (2.0 16v) if its an R reg, as this was the only engine available in the special edition GSI
