Just fetched Jamie's car back from the mechanics who have fitted a new front cross member and a new radiator. Filled it with coolant to the level over a period of about 30 minutes to fill the whole system back up and the temp stayed at just over half way. Garage reckoned head gasket was OK as no signs of heat damage.
Drove it home (about 1.5 miles) and temp reached the red in the space of 5 mins of actual driving. Didn't drive it myself so couldn't hear if fan had cut in or not.
Any ideas? Has he not connected the fan or could the temp thermostate have gone?
Getting fed up with this. Wonder when we will be able to drive this blooming car.

just saying its not gone as there is no signs of heat damage, I'd still get a sniffer test done...
but seens its been refilled lately & a new rad fitted, might just be airlock or smoething simple.

OK, sniffer test? Would an exhaust centre do that?

sniffer test is just a test of the coolant system, basically detects exhaust emitions if present which indicate an issue with the hg.
