daimo going on one of your comments in the CTR post about prefering an N/A car to a turbo car on track would you say the elise 111R is a better track weapon the the vx220 turbo?

I would say that a Pulse Rifle with 10mm explosive tip caseless rounds would inflict more damage than a spud gun.

There is currently a lad in my town that seems to think his 1.48v 106 with a saxo vtr bottom end will beat my Corsa...I mean really.

Is yours a VX220 turbo?
or just a VX220? I didn't understand the figures for VX220 N/A... 2.2 16v - only 146 bhp. (made really low down, so I'm guessing lots of torque)
however weight = 920kg or something.
That's not that light...

TBH, the NA models, good in the corners, quicker than the the Astra thats for sure, but on the straights they were no problem. Good cars for track days, but too slow for me. Would HAVE to have the turbo I think due to the performance difference.
The VX220T's on the other hand, just as quick as the NA's through the corners, and left me out onto the straights, buy the end i'd be catching them again, and most of them braked like old grannies with a full car of shopping and the pet poodle.
There were some drivers giving it some real beans. But the astra looses out. Its a great track car, but its no VX220T..
Those VX220s in front were all Turbos. I was all over that damn silver one, he would not let me pass on the straights though (as he'd pull a gap ont he corners). I was angry, we spoke, all was cool after He was also taking some weird lines..
There was a few 280+bhp ones down there. NO chance

book figure for the 0-60 of the na 2.2 is in the 5 secs, so even that would still beat the gsi, sure the na would go flat after 60 tho! just good traction

was this astra silver mate? as i had a lad storm up my rear end over the weekend. he looked around 18 years of age. I only just started the car and engine was still cold, so just let him pass. Winds me up people who drive a slightly fast car when they are young and think its the fastest car ever
Also Iaz, I then saw it parked up at the Gledrid petrol station, think he works there TBH.

Had a few full on races with a guy in a yellow VX220T (iaz ) and anyway he always gave me the thumbs up wed always play on these country roads and onto a dual carriageway, he was by far faster but always impresed how well the corsa kept up, and that was with 230bhp and 950kgs.
He was still noticably FAR quiker. Your vx will rape an astra gsi

vx220 will piss all over a gsi-t.
Without a doubt.
Driven both, owned one...the young lad is clearly a disalusional crack pot.

Steve you are making far to many mistakes recently, 2.2 16v VX220 is 5.7 seconds to 60mph

I was offered a race recently by a lad round here with a scooby estate. recons he has 300bhp. I offered a meet at a trackday at croft (only a few miles from me) and even offered to pay his petrol and trackday fees if he beats me.
he still hasnt taken me up on the offer probably because he doesnt have 300 bhp and not confident that his barge and his driving skills are up to the job.

SetH - Yeah, its a weird one. But i should have put on that other post "i like NA FWD cars" Turbo FWD on a track just doesn't really work IMO. Far to random on the power delivery. Turbo for RWD track cars is a different matter as you can use the turbo to help you get round the corners. On FWD, when it spools up all it wants to do is ignore the corners and go straight on
Flaming, yeah, this is true, no hopping in and out of the Astra Unfortunatly no i've not driven eiher VX220 But I got a good idea of how they went from following them all day. They look really planted to the floor. A bit too much throttle can leave teh back end hanging out, but those drivers who were actaully pushing really really left me out of the corners. They should be better on the brakes as well really as they are so much lighter (astra is 1400KG + Driver). I'll try to find the pics from the day.
Interesting what you say about the flat spots. The astra suffers massivly from them at around 4000+rpm (two huge dips in power, you can physically feel them). Putting Optimax (or whatever it is now) cures that issue though. Does Optimax make and difference to yours? The astra runs SO much better and quicker on Opti, its just expensive to fill up at like 50 litres per tank
In all honesty, the astra would loose out by a fair way to 100mph, but after than the diddy 220 would be realed in and passed. Come to a corner, well, all depends on driver skill and how big (or stupid) his cahonas (?sp) are

optmax makes it little beta but not to much really, normally use optimax but have to drive 10mile to get to it!
vaux garage think i have sticking wastegate at the min so am down on power, some times it goes well and othertimes pull out and it feels really really flat!
defo got flat spots like physically feels like car is holding back then pushed forward?!?! if that makes sence!
i remember having a play with a VXR like yours on motor way he thought he was the nuts in it, we were doing around 70ish, i could let him pull nearly along side and boot and and then pull a head of it, did it on 3-4occasions! we gave each other the thumbs up tho!
on that day car must have been going well, a porche came past, not sure wot model it was but was turbo and VERY nice, few years old, i pulled out behind him and caught he, we were doing about 70, i was in 4th and getting ready to grab 3rd, then all of a sudden with roof off heard his engine note change at an istant, i grabbed 3rd and slowly caught up till around 100ish and then he was starting to easy away very slowly and then he pulled over and let me past! with a thumb up smiling at each other, was all good!!!! did get alot of shouting at from gf tho, hehehe

Yeah i know what you mean, kinda just looses power then comes back again like when the turbo originally spools up, jsut not as harsh.
Thats what blindfolds are for. "here are luv, put this on quick"
