Say someone got attacket and assaulted while stood in the street what was at the time a complete stranger
blood coming from the lads nose who got attacked. his mate steps in. pulls the guy who attacked his mate round. smacked him once and the lad goes down on the floor ko'd
what would happen to the lad who possibly acted in defensive of his friend?

He would have to go to prison and share a cell with a 18st fairy called Leroy.

ignoring the spelling and grammatical mistakes*
he'd probably be arrested as he wouldn't be acting in self defence. I doubt it would carry a heavy punishment, however with police targets the way they are - I would almost certainly expect and arrest and caution

will be done for gbh, get fined, pos. more depending on the court, and the law will go in favour of the smackhead who originally started on other person for no reason

although you can't be tried for the same crime twice (double jeopardy law - although that is in the process of being changed) - you can be arrested for the same crime twice; its unusual with something as minor as a fracas, but not unheard of. It depends on wether the other party wanted to make a complaint against your hypothetical mate and also wether the police want to proceed with a breach of the peace order.
He might even get a badge of honour (ASBO)

i know this isnt the exact same situation but i got set upon by my neighbour because i was dancing with his mrs (shes 36 and im 19 at the time) who ive known since i was about 10 yrs old. He started on me, i hit him in self defence and he went down hard without putting his hands down to protect himself. He got up covered in blood and has a nice big split over his eye. He came at he again and the police turn up just as i give him 2 lefts and a right before i put my hands up and the police grap up. I was arrested, interviewed and let go. 2 weeks later i got a letter of no further action, if it was self defence and your m8 didnt take liberties then i wouldnt expect anything more, maybe a caution at most.

right. for the pricks who love to take the piss
ok lets hope we dont get the same immature response as on corsasport hey
so, apologies in dvance for spelling and gramma mistakes. am in a rush in work so not got time to really type it word perfect but i will change it from what i put on there
Stood outside a bar with a few mates. a lad comes straight out the bar/club towards my mate (who has is arms round a girl hugging) smacks the guy with the bird who stumbles away clutching his face. the guy who hit him goes for him few more times until a mate of the guy who got hit pulls the guy round, clobbers him once and down the guy goes on the floor, out cold.
so obviously crowd appears round the lad on the floor and police come over. the lad who knocked the guy out admits to the assault straight away to the cops (was blatantly obvious anyways so no point denying it really)
ok so gets arrested. back of police van. is perfectly polite with the officers, fully co-operating. cops leave him there 30 mins and lets him go. taking his details to be told will be followed up at a later date
just after bit of advice what might possibly happen to the lad?
the mate who originally got assaulted for no reason has been phoned and has to go the cop shop tomorrow to make a statement

prosecute the guy who started it m8, after what happened to me i wouldnt expect any furter action for the guy who stuck up for your m8s. When i explained myself to the police officer his words were "well you cant stand there and let someone hit you can you??" they were spot on.

I wans't taking the piss - the police targets are ever increasing - I had something daft like 28 offences against me for a single thing which I hadn't even done. (Cut a long, long (12 month) long story short - I won my court case) - however the fact would have been if I had lost my case I would have counted as 28 arrests; not 1.
The chances are, depending on the force in question, that they would at least go for a breach of the peace if not a drunk and disorderly charge just to make up their figures. Shouldn't result in any more than a caution & small fine but he may be lucky and get nothing

Depends on evidence, if police saw it, and lad who retaliated wasn't blind drunk etc the police would (in most situations) side with the person who retaliated on mates behalf imo. Best thing to do is neither press charges, both probably spend a nigth in cell etc, might get public order thing for £80.
My mate did something similar about 6 weeks ago, although it was a bit more complex the bones of the story is the same.
Mate who retaliated on behalf of the other mate chased a lad outside the club wthey were in (the bouncers let him ) and he kicked fuck out of him and left him fully kocked out missing some teeth, the bouncers told my mate to fuck off luckily or he would have got fucked

what planet are you on? they took details and let him go after 30mins, no time in cell, no fingerprints, no dna taken.
they will ask the other bloke what happened and IF (a big if) he wanted to press charges (which he wont coz he started it and theres bound to be many witnesses) they will start to build a case.
anyway it would be assault at most GBH he would have to have had an injury, being embarassed infront of your m8s by acting hard and getting KO'd with 1 punch, sounds like he got what he deserved.

dont worry about it m8, i would do the same thing for any friend of mine in the same situation.
when i got arrested, there was CS spray everywhere for the crowd trying to explain it was self defense on my part (drunk crowd from party)
i had no shirt on my back and the other bloke was twice my age and half my size, (i was about 16st & at the gym ev day) and covered in blood, his whole face it looked bad!
i wasnt caught up in the CS as i put my hands up str8 away, got cuffed, was v polite with the officers who put me str8 in the back of the car while it was kicking off.
Your situation sounds alot les heated than mine and i came out of it fine, anyone decent m8 would do the same.

at the time i said to the sargent which he wrote in his pad "he hit my mate and i hit him for doing it"
or something like that. blind drunk the fact the coppers let me go tells me this. they asked me to sign next to where he wrote that little note in his book. i said i didnt want to. still let me go and shuck my hand

an ex-m8 of mine spat in my friends face in town, put his hand on her forehead and pushed her because she told him to stop singing a racist irish song. He took off in a huf fthen returned 10mins l8r and started again but this time he was in another friends face (another lass) i wasnt gna stand for this so i told him to try his crap on with me, it resulted in him being KO'd, after he came round (a good 5mins out cold) he came again and got the same again. The cheeky twat tried to get me arrested for it but the witnesses explained what happened, the fact that i had mysteriously disappeared and the fact that he kicked off with the ambulance crew the police saw right through him. Honestly namkeaps, i wouldnt loose any sleep over this. You may recieve a letter of no further action just so you know whats happening but thats all m8.
