I'd like to train for boxing, to help get fitter / defend myself better. However, I don't really want to have my nose broken again! plus I shattered my knuckle into pieces when I was younger and I'm worried that'd play up.

If you sign up to a boxing club, what do you get? do you get someone actually training you? and can you just spa with someone who won't smack the shit out of you, or do you have to fight? proper fights.

It varies but usually you get qualified boxing coaches and the use of their equipment whether it be a bag, speed ball, weights, ring .etc

Most clubs dont force you to box its simply a case of if you want to competitively they can give you ample oppurtunity to do so

Best bet is to find your local clubs number/website and you can find out what they offer and how much it is

Cool and when you do fight (if you do) how is your opponent picked? skill level or weight class?

I've been focusing on losing weight for a while am down to 10 stone 5, but most of my weight is in my upper body now, so If I could get done to like 9 stone's or something, like 140 lb's or under, what weight class would I be to fight?

Would be awesome to fight some skinny little fuck. Just need to build my arms and triceps.

If you managed to get to 140lbs or so you'd be Super Lightweight/Junior Welterweight if you go slightly over its Welterweight.

They'll usually try to place you with someone who's a similar skill level and similar weight level... they'll then probably be more flexible (considering you're at the beginner end of things) to go with the weight being either 1 category more or less just so you're a same skill level. Could vary though tbh, probably best to check with your club before signing up

I'll ask my brother about the gyms there .etc and if he knows of any boxing clubs

I used to go kickboxing, went for about 3 or 4 years but gave up when I moved to Manchester.

Been looking into some other martial arts to start up again, but will probably just get some fitness and flexibility back before I start as its shocking at the moment.

just started doing stuff. up every mornin at 6 to go for a half hour run, start ma work at half 7 you see.

but do training most nights, get a couple of nights off of it though, too much of it aint good.

try to do swimming, weights, boxing, running every wee to vary it out. and eat extremely healthy nowadays.

main reasons i wanted to do it was to get rid of the beer belly, but mostly because i couldnt go out every saturday night without getting in at least 1 fight, so wanted to defend myself better.

I started a few months ago at my Uni

twice a week for two hours

Normally consists of skipping then basic training.

Throughout the evening you can spar if you choose to, but if not its fine.

I enjoy the sparing side, but have been caught off guard once or twice and it does knock you for six sometimes.
