Right is there a clip or anything which is suposed to hold the driveshaft in at the gearbox end.

I know this should be in the help sectiojn but just trying get this sorted asap

no, it'll 'pop' in one its pushed in, just push it in and let it come back and keep doing it till it pop's in,
