Just found out i gotta pay an extra £170 cos i've just got three points!! Girl on the phone said was lucky they just didn't cancel my insurance policy. If i cancel today i get £1000 back, only paid £1000.58 so might try and get a cheaper quote with 3 points declared. Should i bother?

I no that! She said cos of my age (20) and the car (fiesta st) that if i tried getting insured with 3 points most places wouldn't insure me! Its only cos i've taken the policy out already that they will continue the cover but want the extra cash!

I cant see that with most insurance companies, you'd just end up with having to pay a bit more

Most people have 3 points these days, so ring around for a few quotes and then cancel your policy. What IG is the ST, £1k sounds a lot even for your age.

u dnt have to tel your insurance straight away anyway,

you only have to inform them an the start of your new insurance year, iv been doin searches since i got mine and by the time i come to renew i will have 1 years no claims bonus and the 3 points and iv found companys willing to insure me for same as im paying now and up to £200 less then im paying now so its definetly worth searching round

go on www.moneysupermarket.com they group all the insurannce groups up for you

As John said you don't have to tell them until renewal time because you've already started the policy... try either moneysupermarket or http://www.confused.com

Generally insurance policies don't mind 3 points... its when its 6+++ that you start seeing massive premium hikes.

Not too sure on IG but don't think the premium is that bad. Its a £15,500 car, brand new, 2.0 16v and i'm only 20? Anyway, will have a shop around. I thought you had to inform them straight away??

I'd also say you'd have too. Anything you declair in your policy when it starts, if it changes you'll have to notify them. Imagine it's only the same as increasing your milage allowance, may be more of a risk, so you have to notify them .
