Ok to cut the story short...I want the car, he wants the plate, it has no MOT or tax...how do I go about sorting this? MOT then transfer off? what do I do for a new reg number?

Any help greatly appreciated...its another corsa btw

DVLA will assign the car with a new plate.

does it need an MOT to be assigned with a new one? and what happens if the plate was not going onto another vehicle immediately?

if the tax and MoT has run out within a year, the plate can be transferred off the car without the need to MOT it.

the car will then be given its old reg mark back.

Presume you do need an MOT but there might another way around it. I'm not sure.

If the plate is not going onto another vehicle straight away then it needs to go on a retention certificate.
