thats not totally true.. they are talking about using coursework in controlled environments.
I.e only coursework in the classroom, supervised by teachers.
Makes it a bit harder when you need libaries etc

Same here Luigi.
Only reason why i managed to get a Distinction in Business Studies. I hated exams and opted for a course that was mainly coursework based

Any degree that is course work based isnt worth the paper it is written on tbh.
Any decent degree has little or no coursework.

I doubt I could have designed, modelled and rendered my major project in complete exam conditions In fact I'm certain I couldn't, the university computers wouldn't have been up to it...
Isn't it just maths c/w thats been banned?

I disagree.
My Computer Science degree had a lot of course work owing to the fact that you can't really assess someones ability to design and build software on an authentically large scale without giving them the appropriate time and facilities to do so. You might get some low level cognitive recollection of some syntax in an exam which will validate the coursework, but there's very little scope for proper analytical design, testing or evaluation of the finished product.
Exams are good for some things, but I don't see that course work is good for nothing. I personally wouldn't be comfortable assessing my own stuff entirely using exams, as there are too many reasons why on the day this doesn't go well for people. I don't do well in exams myself, which is probably why I have that opinion.
If I want academic standards, I'll enforce them by comparing someones ability to produce coursework with their general ability in the classroom setting. This after using the coursework to assess things which I couldn't give students the opportunity to supply to me in an exam.

I'm not a big fan of exams, but I prefer them to coursework since I'm more of a fan of leaving things until the last minute!
