Just bought my 1st 'real' camera. After taking advice from the guys at my local camera club, I've gone for a Nikon D50 as a starter.

They had a bit of a debate amongst themselves as too whether a Canon or Nikon was best.

Hope I've made the right choice I've ordered it on-line, should arrive sometime today

Yeah a couple of the members advised me on the Canon 350D, but then some of the others convinced me to get the Nikon. I've taken a few random shots and it seems pretty good so far

Im trying to decide what to get at the moment, I prefer the Nikon D70 over the new Canons, the canons seem small and a bit more like a 'toy' whereas the nikons feel a bit more substancial

The canons take better pictures though whether they feel like a toy or not.
I'd rather have better pictures.

The guys at the camera club all have there own preferences. Some swear by Canon, some swear by Nikon

I'm only starting out, so I'll find out for myself in due course which I prefer

It'll do fine and I doubt you will notice the differences just now tbh.

Finding out for yourself is exactly the way to do it.

Was more aimed at the canon feeling like a toy comment above

LOL I wasn't getting at you, and I do agree its all about good pictures not how good a camera looks

Your right, I don't know enough yet so I think it's the bees knees atm

Hopefully once I get more experience, I'll be able to tell whats good and whats not!!

Thats my problem, I know canons like the 350d or 400 are better, but just finding it annoying that I prefer the feel of the Nikons

I'm Nikon through and through for affordable cameras at least in a standard format. Mamiya again in the affordable range of medium format cameras.
